Ambrosia Beetles

Ambrosía beetles bore into hardwood trees and introduce a fungus (known as an ambrosial fungus) Into the tree.

 

The fungus grows using the sap of the tree and the beetles eat the fungus as it matures.

 

Unfortunately for the tree the fungus Can quickly block the water flowing through the vascular system of the tree and can quickly kill the tree.
