After a storm hits, it is important to take precaution when it comes to caring for and preserving your trees. The Arbor Day Foundation recommends a few simple rules.

Stay away from down power/utility lines, broken/hanging branches, and don’t operate a chainsaw unless you are completely comfortable. Remove smaller broken branches, as this can reduce the risk of decay on the tree. You can also carefully use a chisel or sharp knife to smooth ragged edges where bark has been torn away. This will help the tree heal faster and eliminates a hiding place for insects. Don’t try and do everything yourself! For trees with larger limbs where climbing is needed, contact a professional!
